For some time, Pat Campbell has enjoyed designing and making different items of clothing that are unusual and one-of-a-kind. She chose the Shibori process because it allows the artist do just that.

What is Shibori?
It is an old Japanese process for dying called "bind and resist". The items are shaped, bound, and dyed by hand. The items are never tub dyed. All items of clothing are 100% cotton. The type of dye used is a fiber reactive dye called "Procion MX." The process each garment goes through is very lengthy and it takes approximately one week to make each item.

The Process
Each garment is soaked 12 hours in soda ash to change the PH of the material. Then the garment is dried, shaped on a pole and bound using sinew natural wax string. The garment then gets dyed using different methods with syringes and squirt bottles. Each item gets a black color overlay. This locks in colors and brings out highlights in the other colors. The garment then sets for 24 hours, rinsed and put through a complete wash cycle using a soap called syunthrapol to help lock in colors and prevent fading.

Colors to choose from are: Bronze, Turquoise, Emerald Green, Sapphire Blue, Raspberry, Deep Orange, Hot Pink . All items are stamped with Spike's image for authenticity.
